The Coolest Things About Living in Boise
As someone who has called Boise home my entire life, I've had the pleasure of experiencing the many things that make this city truly special. Whether it’s the natural beauty, the thriving local culture, or the strong sense of community, Boise has a unique charm that’s hard to find anywhere else. Here are my top five favorite things about Boise:
1. The Boise River Greenbelt
One of my favorite spots in the city is the Boise River Greenbelt. This scenic 25-mile pathway winds along the Boise River, offering a peaceful retreat for walking, biking, or just enjoying the outdoors. It’s one of those places that never gets old—whether I’m taking an early morning stroll or enjoying a sunset ride. The Greenbelt connects some of Boise’s best parks and neighborhoods, making it easy to immerse yourself in nature without ever leaving the city.
2. The Foothills and Outdoor Recreation
Boise’s foothills provide an extensive network of trails that are perfect for hiking, mountain biking, and trail running. The accessibility of these trails right from the city is something I’ll never take for granted. Whether it’s a quick hike up Camel’s Back Park or an all-day adventure exploring Ridge to Rivers trails, the foothills offer the perfect escape and some of the best views of the Treasure Valley. Boise’s connection to the outdoors is one of the biggest reasons people fall in love with this place—and I’m no exception.
3. Boise State and Our Football Community
It’s impossible to talk about Boise without mentioning Boise State University and the incredible football culture that comes with it. The iconic blue turf at Albertsons Stadium is a symbol of Boise’s pride and passion, and as a Boise State Alumni, I soak up football season every time it comes around. Fall Saturdays are electric, with fans coming together to cheer on the Broncos, whether at the stadium or from their favorite local spot. The strong sense of unity and pride that comes with Boise State football is something that brings the entire community together, and I love being a part of it.
4. The Growing Food and Restaurant Scene
Boise’s food scene has grown so much over the years, and it’s one of my favorite things about living here. From farm-to-table restaurants highlighting Idaho’s incredible produce to hidden gem food trucks serving up flavors from around the world, there’s always something new and exciting to try. Some of my personal go-to spots include Wyld Child by the Wylder Group, The Basque Market for their famous paella, and some of the newer spots downtown that are putting creative twists on classic comfort food. Whatever you’re craving, Boise’s got it—and chances are it’s locally sourced.
5. The Strong Sense of Community
At the end of the day, what makes Boise truly special is the people. There’s a genuine sense of community here that you don’t find in every city. Whether it’s the friendly nods you get on a morning walk, the way local businesses support each other, or the camaraderie at events like the Saturday farmers' market, Boise feels like one big neighborhood. People here care—about their city, their neighbors, and keeping Boise a great place to live.
